Chadwick Middle School supports the specific academic and social needs of students in grades 6 to 8. During these years, students are confronted with array of choices in a complex and rapidly changing world therefore students are empowered through opportunities to explore and pursue their unique talents in order to reach their learning potential.
As Chadwick International is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) candidate school, our curriculum for the Middle School (MS) is based on the (IBMYP) framework.
IB MYP is a concept based program which provides a curriculum framework that encourages students to become critical and reflective thinkers who are passionate about and engaged in learning. Our education goes beyond the transmission of knowledge and rote memorization. We require students to process facts and skills at a deeper intellectual level as they relate these to concepts and principles. This increases motivation for learning by engaging the personal intellect of our students. Students are challenged to make connections between subject areas and are given opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to solve problems and investigate creative solutions through integrating the design cycle into all subject areas. Our innovative courses are framed by inquiry (asking), action (doing) and reflection (thinking). This synergistic thinking transfers new learning to create understandings that are relevant and meaningful. Different views and perspectives are valued. Our students explore a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally, this encourages active learners who can empathise and pursue lives of purpose and who are committed to service and action. To this end, all students are engaged in an interdisciplinary unit which encompasses an outdoor education experience.
Learning can be communicated both in the language of instruction English or in the student’s mother tongue. At CI we belief that language is central to learning.
Students are supported in the transition from elementary school by building on prior learning. Chadwick International provides a strong academic foundation through a coherent curriculum, which enables students to confidently enter high school to complete the last two years of the IBMYP in grades 9 and 10 and then to progress into the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) in grades 11 and 12.
