On December 2, 2020, we held a Parent Webinar on Inquiry as an Approach to Teaching and Learning. The key points highlighted in the webinar are:

- Inquiry is not a curriculum; it is an approach to teaching and learning
- Inquiry approach helps out students to become strong, capable learners.
- Students learn better when they  are curious, do not feel threatened or unsafe,  have ownership of their learning, and  can see the purpose of their learning
- Having the opportunity to reflect, make connections, and make mistakes makes learning better - when we tell and correct, we do not help them learn independently.
- As adults, we can support our students in their learning when we encourage curiosity; we talk about their ideas, questions, theories, and interests.

According to Kath Murdoch, "The inquiry-based approach is a powerful way to support children in developing their capacity to be independent, adventurous, curious, resilient learners."

Although we were unable to record the webinar due to copyright restrictions, Kath invited the parent community to raise questions that she can address. We will be sharing her response to your questions. We also invite you to add your suggestions on how we can improve the workshops and presentations that we offer to parents.


지난 12월 2일 Kath Murdoch 의 학습과 교습의 접근방식으로서의 탐구에 대한 세미나에 참석하신 학부모님께 감사를 전합니다. 세미나의 핵심내용을 정리하여 드립니다.

- 탐구는 커리큘럼이 아니고 학습과 교습으로의 접근방식이다.
- 탐구적 학습접근은 학생들의 역량과 실력을 키우는데 도움이 된다.
- 학생들이 공부를 더 잘 할수 있는 조건은 다음과 같다. 궁금해할 때, 정서적으로 공격을 받거나 위험하다고 느끼지 않을 때, 학습의 주인의식을 느낄 때, 공부를 해야하는 목적을 확일 할수 있을 때
 - 성찰할 수 있는 기회가 주어질 때, 실수는 학습이 더 잘이루어지도록 도움을 준다. 학생들에게 잘못을 지적하고 고쳐주는 것은 독립적인 학생이 되도록 도와주지 못한다.
- 어른으로서 우리는 호기심을 자극함으로써 학생들의 학습에 도움을 줄 수 있다;  학생들의 생각, 질문, 이론, 관심사에 대해 얘기하는 것은 호기심을 자극하는 좋은 방법이다.

Kath Murdoch에 의하면 "탐구 기반의 학습법은 학생들이 독립적이고, 모험적이고, 호기심 많고, 유연한 학습자로 자라는데 강력한 도움을 주는 방법이다.
