Friday, October 23, 2020 NEWSLETTER Our Mission: Develop Global Citizens with Keen Minds, Exemplary Character, Self-Knowledge, and the Ability to Lead
Dear Upper School Students and Parents,
I hope that you and your family are healthy and well. Here at school, it is a very busy time for our students and faculty. There are many student assessments, our Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences are next week, and the Mid-Year Reports will be shared in December. With regard to assessments, all students have their assessments planned for days that they are on campus, unless it is a project that students are working on over a period of time. We are also paying particular attention to our summative assessment loading guidelines that ensure that students do not have too many assessments on any day or in any given week.
Parent Information Meeting Please remember that we have a Parent Information Meeting this coming Wednesday, October 28 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. that can be accessed using this link. The agenda for the meeting is as follows:
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences Information Date and Time: Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Method: Online Conferences
Please note that the schedule has changed from what was previously communicated.
Warm regards,
Back To School Night Reflection This week we invited parents to join us for a presentation about the Middle Years Programme (MYP), with a particular focus on Language Pathways. Thank you for attending and for your feedback and follow-up questions. You can view the presentation here and the recording here.
Next week, we will send a non-binding survey for course selections for next year. Families will not have to adhere to the choices made on this survey. It is merely for the school to plan for staffing and scheduling for 2021-2022. Final course selections will be made by families in January-February of 2021.
Ms. Dickinson (MYP Coordinator)
Dean of Students I am happy to see that Upper School students are settling into the responsibilities that we all must undertake to keep everyone safe. Just a reminder that students need to sit in their assigned seats at lunch. I will be working with the Student Council to put students' names on the dividing panels at their seats. When I check the lounges, I hope to see students making an effort to distance themselves as they chat with friends. Remember that the Advisory rooms should be open as an alternative to the lounge areas.
As the weather gets colder, remember to wear a sweater or a coat. I am seeing people coming to school in the morning shivering. Dress to be warm! I know that the assessments are starting to build up, so remember to plan out your study time and keep track of due dates.
Ms. Adisa (Dean of Students)
College Counseling PSAT Reminder Registration for the PSAT is closed. Students who are registered for the exam will be required to complete their pre-administration information in Advisory (10/20: G11 and 10/22: G10). We will email registered students with test day instructions. Please note that the PSAT will take place on Thursday, October 29 from 8:30 a.m. - noon in the Auxiliary Gym.
Submit Transcript Requests for November 30 Deadlines Grade 12 students are required to submit transcript request forms one month prior to the application deadline. If you are applying to the University of California, please submit one transcript request only (even if you are applying to multiple U.C. campuses). In the comment section, list each U.C. campus where you are applying. Although the University of California does not accept transcripts at this time, they will eventually need one if you enroll.
A link for the Grade 12 Transcript Request Form can be found here.

Adolescents are under a great deal of stress and feel pressure to succeed in school. This often results in unhealthy habits, like sporadic eating, not getting enough sleep, or not exercising regularly.. not to mention that adolescents are constantly distracted by their phones, games, etc.
As always, contact the Upper School Counselor if you have concerns or would like suggestions for helping your child develop healthy habits.

Mr. McGrath Upper School Principal
Back To School Night Reflection

Ms. Adisa (Dean of Students)
