Friday, November 6, 2020 NEWSLETTER Our Mission: Develop Global Citizens with Keen Minds, Exemplary Character, Self-Knowledge, and the Ability to Lead
Dear Upper School Students and Parents,
It is with excitement that we confirm that all students will return to campus this Monday, November 9. This past week I have had several conversations with students and teachers including a presentation to students on the expectations and guidelines for our return. There are a number of expectations and guidelines for the students; however, the main points for them to understand are the three W's.
Students' ability to meet health and safety guidelines is a requirement for allowing students to be back on campus. If individual students or groups of students demonstrate behaviors not adhering to the health and safety guidelines, then parents will be asked to keep their child home from school for a period of time while they reflect on their behaviors. We greatly appreciate the understanding and support of our CI families on this issue.
Warm regards,
Attention, Grade 10 parents! The curriculum team would like to invite you to a course selection presentation on Wednesday, November 11 at 10 a.m. This presentation is an introduction to the various course pathways that students can choose in Grade 11. You can join the live stream here.
On Tuesday, October 20, Mrs. Rachel Dickinson, MYP Coordinator, and Dr. Barbara Wrightson, Director of Teaching and Learning (along with translator Ms. Ahn JiYoung, Korean Language and Literature Department Chair), presented information on MYP curriculum, courses and pathways. The recording of the presentation can be found here, and the slides for the presentation can be found here.
Please note that there is one addendum to the information presented during this parent information session: the Korean Language Acquisition pathway at CI does not extend into our IB Diploma Programme (DP). Thus, students who study Korean Language Acquisition through to Grade 10 will need to master the Korean language well enough to matriculate to DP Korean Language and Literature for Grades 11 and 12 or will need to choose a different language to study in the DP during Grades 11-12. If you have questions about this pathway, please contact Dr. Wrightson.
Additionally, as a follow-up to the presentation, we are asking all MYP parents of students in Grades 6 to 9 to complete this non-binding survey about their family's desired choices for language, arts and design courses to study next school year. This is not a binding survey and is merely for the school's planning purposes. A binding survey will be sent to parents in the early part of 2021. Please complete the survey once for each child in Grades 6 - 9. The deadline to complete the survey is November 15.
Thanks again to all parents who were able to attend the parent information session on October 20. For those parents who have questions about their child's language learning options/pathways at CI, please contact Dr. Wrightson at bwrightson@chadwickschool.org. For MYP questions, please contact Mrs. Dickinson at rdickinson@chadwickschool.org.
Last Thursday and Friday, we held Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences online via Zoom video calls. Thank you to all of the parents, families, and students who joined us. Teachers enjoyed having a chance to discuss their students' learning. The goal was to celebrate learning success with parents and to provide every student with some strategies to help develop their learning for the remainder of the year. Students will be able to use this information to set academic goals and monitor their progress.
Ms. Dickinson (MYP Coordinator)

Mr. McGrath Upper School Principal

Online application form
