Friday, January 22 2021 Village School Newsletter Dear Chadwick Village School Families,
I hope that your families are healthy and well. This week, our curriculum coordinators hosted parent workshops for Grade 5, Grade 4, Grade 3 and Kindergarten. During these workshops, parents shared questions that they had concerning the curriculum and MAP growth reports. We shared celebrations of learning from the previous Units of Inquiry and an overview of the learning goals for the upcoming Unit of Inquiry, math and literacy.
Some of the questions that were asked include:
You can find the answers to these questions in the Zoom recordings, linked to the Village School Curriculum Website. Special thanks to Ms. Mei-Lyn Freeman, Ms. Pam Castillo and Ms. Seura Park for leading these workshops.
Next week parent workshops will continue:
We want to clarify the school's planning in accordance with the Emergency Care Act. Schools implement the Act based upon a variety of factors, including their capacity and their local school district's judgment of local conditions. With health and safety continuing to be everyone's top priority, our decisions may therefore not be identical to those of other schools, especially those that are in a different location, situation, and/or jurisdiction.
As we wrote to you on Wednesday, in the interest of the health and safety of our school community and the educational needs of our students, we applied to Incheon Ministry of Education (IMOE) - and were granted permission - to bring our entire Pre-K and Kindergarten back to campus. We did not apply to have students in Grades 1-5 on campus because we would not have been permitted to hold on-campus "school" for them - only to provide child care that would have diverted our teaching staff resources away from providing the best distance learning experience for all students in those grades.
As Parent-Teacher conferences approach, we'd like you to take the time to think about the significance of this opportunity in your child's learning journey. When a parent is actively involved with their child's education, it benefits everyone involved. We are fortunate to have many parents who have actively supported your child's learning in the home during distance learning. At Chadwick, we believe that productive communication is one of the top strategies for fostering the relationships that grow between a parent and the educators who work with your child. Conferences to meet with your child's classroom teachers are open to all parents from Pre-K - Grade 5.
This Zoom conference will allow parents to meet and discuss your child's development with your child's classroom teacher. We will share the Calendly links on Monday so that you can sign up at a time that is convenient for you. Thursday, February 4 is a non-teaching day; therefore, there will not be any lessons taking place for students.
Specialist teachers from Grade 1 - 5 will also be available to meet parents on this day via Zoom. If you are unable to secure a meeting time with your child's Grade 1 - 5 specialist teacher via calendly, please contact the teacher directly to make arrangements for a meeting on a different day at a mutually convenient time.
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer interpretation services at these conferences. Please arrange for your own interpreter if needed. At any time of the year, should you have a query about your child's development, we encourage you to make arrangements to speak with your child's classroom or specialist teacher.
We would like to offer a curbside pick up of library books. Outlined below are the procedures to follow:
We can collect your other library books that you have finished reading. Please drop those off when you collect your new books.
Warm regards,
Julian Taylor Village School Principal
