Middle School News

The Middle School Production Team proudly presented this year’s Middle School play, “The Magic Diary of Mozambique,” from February 1-4. Students in Grades 6-8 (with support from Upper School students and teachers) dedicated their time to memorizing lines and blocking, designing costumes, making props and constructing sets in order to make this year’s show a success. They have been hard at work since September, committing to numerous rehearsals both after school and on weekends.

“The Magic Diary of Mozambique,” written by Chris Stiles and licensed through Theatrefolk, tells the story of Darla, a 13-year-old who feels invisible within her own family. When her sister brings her a diary from Mozambique, unusual things start to happen. From misunderstandings at school to incidents on the golf course and killer roses in the garden, this comedy provided opportunities for students to learn about story-telling and elements of drama and fantasy. When auditions began at the end of August, over 50 students tried out for various roles. Once the play was cast, additional scenes were written and added to the play (with permission from Theatrefolk) to enhance the story and create more acting opportunities for students.

This play would not have been possible without the cast and crew’s hard work and commitment and the CI community’s support. Special thanks go out to Director Wenny Masinde, Co-Director Melissa Brough, Production Director Meli Hickenbottom and Technical Director Mike Mellinger.
